My students will benefit from adding mentor texts to our classroom library. We currently do not have many mentor texts for our reader's and writer's workshop. Mentor texts will help my students become better readers and writers.
Students love to hear and write stories, and they need authentic examples in order to do this. By using a mentor text, students discover the meaning of the text, analyze themes, parts of speech, and find connections within the text. As a teacher, I want my students to experience a wide range of experiences in literature and find passion in reading. These mentor texts will help my students develop their language skills and become critical thinkers.
