I am switch to second grade after 10 years in first. I will also be departmentalizing for the first time, teaching 2 sections of reading and 1 writing. Most of our students are on free-reduced lunches and have a grandparent raising/helping to raise them. Our students love to learn and work very hard in the classroom. Being in a second grade classroom means I have lots of active, little friends. I am hoping to keep them engaged in reading by helping them find characters they love, learning new things in nonfiction texts, and giving them lots of different genre options.
