I am an Early Childhood Intervention Specialist and teach in a special needs preschool program in a public school system. Our classes can have up to 12 students in the morning and 12 in the afternoon class. These students range from 3-6 years old. About half of these students have special needs and have an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The special needs include, but are not limited to Autism, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, speech and language delays, sensory processing delays and fine motor delays. I also work with a classroom assistant, a speech therapist, an occupational therapist, a physical therapist, and an adapted physical education teacher. My school has a total of thirteen classrooms similar to mine. We also have two classrooms for students that need a smaller class size and one itinerant teacher, who support students who need home and community based services.
