My students are older brothers and students who go home to more responsibilities than any 5th graders should have. They see school as refuge, a place where they can relax and enjoy being kids again. They are eager to learn new information and are ready to be pushed to see the world from a different perspective. They have been raised with technology all around them but because of their limited resources haven't been able to fully understand and explore the wonders of technology and how they can use it as a key to success. 5th grade is a huge transitioning year. They start the year as little kids and by the end of the year they have gone through so many physical, emotional, mental, and academic changes in order to prepare them for middle school. My goal for them this year as their teacher, is to give them the skills and tools necessary to navigate through these changes they best they can and become self sufficient individuals ready for the competitive workforce that is ahead of them.
