My students are amazing! Most have been impacted by chronically stressful or traumatic factors during their lives and yet they show incredible resilience. Through the use of expressive arts activities (visual arts, music, movement and theatre) I support them to develop vital socioemotional skills to strengthen their relationship with their self and with others. They live in a neighborhood where poverty is an on-going challenge as well as community violence. They respond well to the arts but many have limited or no access to programs or supplies. We attempt to give them opportunities to express themselves, build relationships and heal through the arts. Supplies will also be used for School wide events that build empathy, resiliency and strength our school community.
