In my school, Humanities is responsible for teaching both English and Language Art and Social Studies. I have amazing students who comes from a multicultural background. They are complex and is constantly eager to learn. However, many of my students come from a low-income background, with immigrant families that speak limited English. Due to life circumstances (finances, trauma, language barriers) and lack of resources outside of school, it hinders students' self-esteem in their academic abilities. What I appreciate about my students is their ability to be reflective and honest. They all bring different strengths and insights to our classroom and community every day. Because our school is so diverse, our students are open-minded to differences and accepting of other cultures.
