In my middle school, we currently begin Holocaust Education in grade 8. After touring concentration camps in Poland with Yad Vashem, my colleague learned that the Diary of Anne Frank should not be the only Holocaust literature shared with middle school students. Because of this, I need more literature to round out their Holocaust education. It is important to teach my students that we should be tolerant of all people no matter their race, religion, gender, or other diversities. I specifically chose books in the True Stories of Teens in the Holocaust: Primary Sources from the Holocaust because I feel my students can best learn from primary sources. I also chose two books, one fiction and one nonfiction, to cover standards in both units, but also to add a variety of resources to widen their understanding.
