My students currently do not have access to the materials that they need to access the science and social studies standards in tactile ways. I have an abundance of textbooks, but my students crave hands-on, inquiry based learning experiences. With access to two different maps of the world (the Peters map and a traditional world map), my students can consider how mapping is a political act, making geography even more exciting. With the ability to project stars and planets onto the ceiling of our classroom, my students will be able to more readily understand and be excited by the solar system and the universe itself. And, with all of these materials, my students will be able to become experts, taking control of the standards and stepping into the role of student-teachers, with all of the necessary models, supplies, and tools needed.
