Classrooms are no longer the traditional four-wall rooms with uncomfortable chairs and desks in rows; they have evolved. This evolution of the classroom is reflective in the new wave of flexible seating options that have found their way into schools across the world. The purpose of flexible seating is that it allows students to make a choice about how they learn by getting to choose where they learn. Whether students need to wobble, bounce, or rock, they should be given the choice to do just that.
All students are unique, and thus require a unique learning space that will best support them. Research has shown that there are many benefits to having flexible seating in the classroom. Firstly, students feel empowered because they are allowed to make the choice about where they learn at any given time. Additionally, students are much more likely to be engaged in learning. All the bouncing and wobbling they do in their flexible seats increases oxygen flow to their brains - making them alert and focused. Furthermore, the implementation of flexible seating also benefits the classroom community, as it encourages students to try different seating options and share them with their peers. In requesting the following items, I am looking to provide my students with these proven benefits. The wobble chairs, balance balls, wobble cushions, recliner stadium seats, stools, stability yoga balls, bouncy bands, and inflatable chair will all be accessible for students during instructional and independent work time - allowing students to engage and access the material in their own unique way.
