My elementary school includes PreK through 5th grade. We are a Title I school, meaning our school has a high percentage of low income students and students that live in poverty. Each class comes to music once or twice a week for 45 minutes. During that time, students experience music by singing, playing instruments, dancing and movement, playing musical games, as well as incorporating many other areas of education such as reading, math, and social studies. Students enjoy listening to music, but they love actively participating. They love to have instruments in their hands! They love playing along with songs and accompanying stories. They love to create their own arrangements! From the youngest to the oldest, children need to express their creativity and music offers students that opportunity. Every child can be successful in music, regardless of age or ability.
