First grade is a year for making sure students love, live, and breathe (and really start to read) great books, especially for our ELL students. My list of books includes everything from picture books to inspire great discussions, humorous read alouds, and high interest early readers. The engaging picture books will help my students build their vocabulary, deepen their comprehension skills, learn to navigate social issues, develop a growth mindset, and build an appreciation of diversity through meaningful multicultural literature. The early readers will motivate and build the confidence of my budding readers, and hopefully contribute to a lifelong love of reading!
