I am a Special Education teacher and I work with cognitively impaired students ages 14 to 21 years old at Ferris High School, an inner city high school in Jersey City, NJ. This is a high-poverty area with more than 65% students who free/reduced lunch. This is the fifth year of the Daily Living Skills program. The program aims to help them gain independence in their adult life, such as doing their own laundry, cleaning their room and home, making their bed, preparing their own food and being more involved in maintaining personal care. They also learn financial literacy, community living, and health and safety.
