Hand generators will allow students to experience the transfer of energy firsthand. They will be able to see how mechanical energy (turning the crank) is transferred to electrical energy, then to light energy. The tuning forks will help students understand that sound is produced through vibrations. The UV beads and prisms will help students understand light energy, white light, the electromagnetic spectrum, and reflection/refraction. The magnets and friction boards will help in reviewing forces. This project will significantly help my students EXPLORE forms of energy, and OBSERVE how energy is transferred hands-on! Science is learned best when concepts can be manipulated and connections can be made.
