Hey there! I am so incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to teach a Pre-K ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) classroom. Why do I feel so honored? I have been entrusted with these students, to begin their journey through education. Most of these children have never been in a structured environment, which means there is a lot of development, learning, and, of course, stress when all of a sudden you go from running around your house all day, playing and laughing, to being thrown into a strange room with people you have never seen before, and they expect you to sit down, share with other kids, and NOT play with toys that are so easily accessible.... CRAZY! Many if not most of the students that come into my classroom for the first time have very little to no communication abilities, so, basic instinct when you are unhappy or sad is to cry. I am able to help students understand that they do have a voice whether it is spoken, signed, or gestured.
