Our classroom at Denker Avenue Elementary School in Gardena is full of diverse, energetic, and motivated learners. It is composed of students from many cultural backgrounds and ethnicities. Many students speak languages other than English (such as Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, and Igbo) and may be classified as English Learners, while others are working on mastering academic English. Our class is also diverse in the types of learner we have in the classroom. While some are performing right at grade level, most are need additional support. Furthermore at Denker, nearly 75% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
This richness in diversity makes learning everyday in our classroom an adventure. Students learn to work collaboratively and build upon each other's strengths to accomplish their learning goals. The students in this classroom are truly an inspiration!
