Prior to Covid-19, I was able to provide amazing functional and vocational opportunities for them within our school, as well as within the community. My 5 students participate in a functional, vocational curriculum throughout the day. They are learning how to manage their behaviors, while increasing their independence in caring for themselves and their surroundings.
Prior to Covid-19, I was able to provide amazing functional and vocational opportunities for them within our school, as well as within the community. Since Covid-19 hit NYC, my students have struggled the most with returning to in-person learning.
The classroom environment is not the same loving, comforting environment it once was. My students desperately need these materials to calm their anxieties and cope with confusing changes that comes with the chaos of blended learning. These materials will provide students an outlet for their stress and anxiety, as well as provide motivating resources to learn new content and new skills. These materials will allow students to learn to self-regulate and self-soothe. Students enjoy lounging on a bean bag, cuddling up with a tactile pillow, or using the iPad after working hard to complete an academic task.
