The materials I am requesting are all materials that will help me facilitate the students growth in being able to speak, read, write, and listen to academic vocabulary, primarily science vocabulary.
Research shows that hands on pre-teaching and review of content vocabulary increases English Language Learners' ability to recall content vocabulary for the long term. These materials will allow me to expand and review vocabulary instruction in the content areas of Science, Reading and Writing. These activity kits are highly engaging and my students have responded very positively to the few kits I currently have available. Of course, BINGO is an old favorite to reinforce vocabulary instruction.
Student verbal interaction is another key to English language development. In the classroom these learners rarely get enough time to talk about and interact around the subject to retain the academic vocabulary. In the small groups I teach with these kits and activities verbal interaction is given priority when developing concept knowledge. The students will enjoy these products and never even feel like they are "working".
