Education is anything but a level playing field. Funding and resources vary drastically from one district to another. As an inner city school teacher resources might be scarce, but learning cannot be scarce! My students want to learn and want to be successful. They have plans and dreams for their future. It is my job to help them meet those goals and achieve those dreams.Â
Technology is a necessity in the modern world. Interactive tablets will allow my students to have daily access to advanced technology. These tablets can be used during independent work times. Students can practice math facts through apps such as Xtra Math. They can also practice problem solving and computation skills through apps such as First in Math and Study Island. This daily practice will help students refine skills and bolster weak skills in a motivational way.
During science, my students will use these tablets to develop questions and research the answers. They will document experiments and learning through photo journals and video diaries. Students will graph results of experiments and report their conclusions through multimedia presentations. Students will be able to present and access learning in innovative ways. In the end, they will be problem-solvers, empowered to take the skills and knowledge in their class to improve their lives.
