I am a Biology teacher in a public school. Most students apparently live in extreme poverty with very little financial means. In (2016) they additionally affected by the disastrous Louisiana flooding and several are/were displaced from their homes. Our classroom has limited resources and we are without individual supply budgets. Most of my students (about 2/3) are minorities and have limited experiences with travel, museums, etc.
