My students in Digital Media are always making films. Whether it be silent films for the International Youth Silent Film Festival, scenes from popular Hollywood movies, or autobiographical documentaries, my students rely on their phones to create student films. We learn about how to compose shots, lighting, and sound and film editing.
Most beginning student filmmakers suffer from shaky camera syndrome (SCS). They are unable to compose a shot without shaking their phone. As a result, their films look unprofessional and you can't follow the story. My students don't have the money to buy tripods, and the cheap tripods I've bought in the past have worn out. I need seriously good tripods with smartphone adapters that my students can use in class.
