I teach in an affluent community where I grew up. Many students live in large homes, drive fancy cars, and wear name brand clothes. Regardless, there are students who struggle with disabilities and handicaps and they just want to be treated like everyone else. I do everything I can to make sure the student have what they need and the equipment they need to enjoy learning.
I am the special education department chair and work closely with parents, teachers, administrators, and our district to make sure that all 170 special education students are continuously learning regardless of their disability. Each special education student has an individualized education plan that helps them move towards graduation of our prestigious high school.
