I work in a dual immersion elementary school with a magnet emphasis in environmental science. Currently, I only have a classroom library supported by English books. These books are great because my students can practice their reading comprehension skills in a English. However, my students’ Spanish language is suffering because they are not currently exposed to many Spanish books in their grade level.
My 4th grade students need more exposure to Spanish chapter books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Esperanza Rising, Because of Winn-Dixie, and more.
These books will help my students continue their love of reading by enhancing their Spanish skills, which is the goal of our dual immersion school - exposure to reading books in more than one language. This will also help my Spanish Language Development group to grow and enhance their Spanish during our literature circles and novel studies.
