My students are wonderful kids; it's a joy to work with them. My favorite part of the day is in the morning when I open the classroom door to greet them. They make me smile, not only because I'm happy to see them, but also because they're happy to be at school. Like many teachers, I have a few students who have behavioral issues, a handful with Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), and many who are not yet fluent in English. My school is Title I, which means high poverty. Illiteracy, language barriers, and lack of life experiences and time can limit expectations, communication, and support from home. A surprising number of the parents work two or more jobs and still can't make ends meet. In spite of this, families do what they can to help their children succeed. I work hard to do what I can for their children by creating a classroom that is an academically secure and successful place. Any help you can give is welcome.
