I am a proud teacher at an alternative high school, where the majority of my students are over age, at risk and under credited. What does this mean? This means my students have been handed a tougher hand in life. They face problems such as family, some have kids of their own or simply their neighborhood is holding them back from the life they want to lead. What does this mean for me? This simply means I have to work harder to show my students that education is the way to success. Unfortunately, my students, when I first get them, do not see the importance of education. Why might you ask? Because they have failed so many times before that this seems like another time for failure for them. My goal for my students at the end of the year is to feel confident in the work that they do, however the challenge lies in the background of my students. I do believe that every day we get closer to that goal.
