Jhumpa Lahiri once said, "That's the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet." Expanding my students' library to include a multitude of books in Spanish will allow them to travel all over the world, across time periods, and into imaginations without leaving the four walls of our classroom.
Oftentimes, due to access, students have more books in English than in other languages, which limits the places they can travel through text. With these books, students will gain exposure to stories they may never have had the opportunity to read without a diverse library. Through this exposure, they will not only gain more knowledge about the world around them, but they will also see hundreds upon thousands of words in Spanish to grow their vocabulary as they develop their robust reading comprehension skills.
