Many of my students enter into 9th grade mathematics not ready or prepared for high school math. They come to me with academic and emotional baggage that prevents them from being able to truly learn mathematics. I have found it difficult to re-teach middle school concepts and the required curriculum. After research and attending many Professional Development, the solution is the Flipped Classroom. This model of teaching will provide students with the opportunity to watch instructional videos at home and use class time practicing and applying what they have learned. Adopting the Flipped Classroom model gives my students the opportunity to use 90 minutes of class time creating, applying, and understanding mathematics. More time will be allowed for me to work with students. Focus is place on student learning and not on instruction.
