I teach 113 eighth grade students in a culturally diverse school. I have a number of students whose first language is not English. Several students are refugees from Burma while our Hispanic population is on the rise. My students stand on the edge of high school. Our school library is small due to budget cuts and a number of books in the library are geared more toward the 6th and 7th graders. These young adults need pieces of literature to excite and inspire them. Due to the poverty of our student body, most of them are unable to go to the bookstore and get these modern works.
