My student are from low-income families and proper supplies are not guaranteed. They may have a parent who has no car, multiple jobs, be in prison, or other situations that make school more difficult. Many of them are helping with younger siblings and we have several students that have attendance issues for reasons out of their control. They have a strong desire to be cared for and loved even when they express it with negative behaviors. Their potential has been downplayed by many family, friends, and schools. Some of them have given up on themselves. They all need encouragement and support from the school and community.
