At our school seventy-five percent of our students get free or reduced lunch, meaning they come from homes that are at or below poverty level. At our school we have 116 different languages spoken. I teach physics to honors students, college preparatory students, and English Language Learners.
Our current curriculum covers only forces and motion. I would like to start a Physics 2 course that would teach our students about electricity and magnetism, sound and light waves, and more about today's careers in science and technology. These urban students are bright and ready to learn, but the school is sorely lacking the materials that will bring the curriculum to life. I want to grab their attention and have them ask real questions about how the world works.
