I recently became my school's case manager after teaching special education for the last 10 years in the Chicago Public School System. In this new role, I will be collaborating with both regular ed and special education teachers, parents, and students to provide and arrange special education services for students with disabilities at my school. 95% of our school is considered low-income and receives free or reduced lunches. The student body consists of 65% Latino, 30% African American, and 5% Caucasian. My goal as a case manager is to create learning experiences that foster critical thinking for all by developing a classroom environment and curriculum that reflects diversity and promotes actively engaging children in learning by allowing them to open their minds and think for themselves.
