An area rug in an elementary level classroom is a valuable resource as it allows students to gather as a collective unit to address important issues or for direct instruction.
Having a large rug will allow my students a change of scenery from the confines of their desks. Sometimes, stretching out or moving their body is all a child needs to get back on track after becoming distracted. I envision this rug becoming an important space in our classroom, we can sit together to launch projects, discuss assignments, and use it as a space for productive small group work.
