My students do much of their schoolwork online. Most of the resources my students need to have access to are found online. Google Classroom is a tool that already allows students access to a large amount of educational materials and applications that are the definition of education in this century. Additionally, students are expected to type benchmark essays using Google Docs, and I am constantly thinking of new ways to vary my lessons with technology that allows students to really embrace and experience the world that their education is preparing them for.
The need for students to have access to technology in the classroom is countered by the overwhelming lack of technology available throughout the school. Clusters of teachers share one cart of chromebooks, which are older and not guaranteed to work. With each teacher in need of technology, and a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy that is not possible for many in our student community, I need to supply my students with the materials that will allow them to become 21st century learners and teach them the skills to become successful 21st century citizens.
