My Kindergarten students are like any other five-year-olds...vibrant, innocent, and yearning to learn. The only exception is that they are living in a neighborhood where it is unsafe to play outside. The gangs and gun violence have taken over their community. Most of them are living below the national poverty level, making it nearly impossible for them to get out and explore the beautiful world surrounding them. Each year we are allotted enough money for one field trip. One field experience is not enough to satisfy these young, inquisitive minds and that is where technology comes into play.
