My students want to engage in their own learning, and as a teacher, I want them to engage with each other without in more ways than just technology. I want them to learn by playing games. Students will be using the lockboxes and combination locks to play "Escape the Classroom" with different Chemistry Units. Students will solve clues based on what they have learned previously in the classroom and work in teams in order to "get out".
Playing games and activities allows students to engage in a different way with difficult material, and will make several reluctant students excited to learn. Games also lend themselves to competition, meaning that students will be eager to bet the other team and more likely to work with only their team.
The lockboxes and lock make the stakes appear higher and the students more immersed in the activity. The "Escape the Classroom" will allow my students to practice working with a team, their listening skills, and applying their knowledge.
