Our goal for this project is to create a safe, fun gross motor space in our classrooms. These items will be used to help support our students in developing their gross motor and self-regulation skills, such as jumping, balancing, bouncing and appropriate calming strategies.
Creating a gross motor space will allow our students to release their excess energy in an appropriate and safe way.
Research has proven that when students are provided movement breaks throughout day, it increases their ability to focus, learn and teaches them self-regulation skills. We will use the PLENY mini trampoline to provide the students with a way to release their energy between academic tasks/centers. We will use the step-a-log balance beam to help our students with mobility issues learn to step up, step down and focus on their balance to increase their independence. The Trideer Balls will provide the students with the opportunity to engage their core muscles while working on academic tasks. These chairs provide the right amount of sensory input to allow students to focus on the task at hand.
