I am very limited on quality reading materials for my classroom. What I have has mostly been handed down and/or bought from thrift stores, Goodwill, and yard sales. The appeal of these books is not there for students who look forward to reading new and currently popular books, but most cannot afford to buy them. I have utilized Scholastic for some new books but they are above a 2nd grade level. I would like to give my new students a library with multiple genres, levels, and series. I would like to give them new books that appeal to them, such as the My Weird School books and a non-fiction set. My students will be able to use these books for their individual and buddy reading. This will give my students an opportunity to enhance their reading skills and hopefully find a greater appreciation for reading.
