Students from different clubs, athletic teams, honor societies, performing arts, and specific classes create and organize modified games and activities for students with moderate to severe special needs. Many other students serve as buddies for the 150 special needs students in self contained classrooms throughout 11 elementary, middle, and high schools in the school district. The activities include face painting, adapted sports activities, crafts, photo booths, music, dancing, hayride, and other carnival like games.
Many of our students with special needs are not able to participate in typical social and recreational experiences, and this day is designed entirely for them. They are able to spend an entire day making friends, choosing activities they want to do, and getting the recognition they deserve and rarely receive.
It is rare to find a public high school filled with so many students who are willing to give back to the community.
