My students are in need of a first grade classroom library. Since many have never even held a book and some have, the range of readers in my classroom will range from Pre-K to 1st grade reading levels. To assure that my students learn to read and continue to improve their literacy skills, it is critical to give them access to leveled books that span the range of readers in my class. It is vital that I ensure my students are reading books that are at both their instructional level as well as their independent level. Having them practice their reading and comprehension strategies in books that are too easy or too difficult will not help them grow as readers. For this reason, I would like to provide my students with a wide variety of books that span across Pre-K to 1st grade reading levels. This will allow me to match where they are currently being instructed with their guided reading level. By providing them with "just right" books, I will be setting them up for success in reading and learning.
