Many students at our school live in poverty, and come to school unprepared. It makes it difficult to write your story or your experiences when you don't have a pencil. The beginning of a school year sees many students prepared through community drives and other means, however at the end of the school year, pencils are a rarity.
Pencils may seem like a common tool, but with it my students can do GREAT things. They can write their experiences, bring their imaginations to life, write about their hopes and dreams, tell about their favorite baseball team, persuade someone to stop doing drugs, write a letter to the president, and so much more.
