My classroom is a very calm, relaxing, welcoming space. I strive to find ways to keep students engaged while also differentiating for their individual needs. Because of this, I think outside the box with different strategies. We have alternative seating, a class pet, and a classroom library with a variety of novels and reading resources that students may utilize at any time. We are a “Growth Mindset” classroom that believes in the “Power of Yet”. Mistakes are ok because we learn from them and difficult doesn’t mean bad. If we can’t do it, it just means we can’t do it “yet”. Perseverance and grit are necessities in life and my classroom…just as compassion, empathy, kindness, and respect are equally necessary. We are a family. We laugh and cry, get angry and apologize, grow and support…most of all we live, learn, and love.
