I am a teacher at an inner-city high school just outside of Boston. It is a school with a high number of international students; roughly 86% of our population does not speak English as their first language. I teach level 1 students, also known as newcomers, which can range from grades 9-12, all in the same class. Students are placed in the class dependent on their English ability.
