I teach a young and inquisitive group of second and third grade English learners. They live in a high-poverty, high-crime area of a major city in Pennsylvania. They are exposed to negative situations on an almost daily basis. On top of all this, there is the challenge of learning a new language. For them, school and their classroom are safe havens. They are incredibly receptive to new, positive ideas they have never heard of before.
