My students are very much interested in the world around them. Many of my students have not traveled much. Since many of them reside in apartments and many of my students’ families do not own a car, they are limited to seeing what is in their local neighborhood. My students are fascinated with expanding their horizons and learning more about other cultures. We have been discussing the importance of respecting cultures that differ from our own and celebrating these differences. They are intrigued in finding out more about different cultures and other countries’ norms and way of life.
Having Chromebooks will allow my students to virtually travel the world and find out more about other countries, its people, and essentially, the world. My students will be able to learn about different cultures and be able to write and share what they have learned to other students. They will present what they have learned and share fascinating and culturally relevant information to their peers. They will learn about current events and some pressing issues that will allow them to think critically and come up with various ways to help solve problems, like hunger, poverty, etc.
Aside from these computers giving students more opportunities to practice very important skills, such as research, communication, typewriting skills, and collaboration, it would really help my students become aware of the bigger picture – that we live in this big beautiful planet full of beautiful people! My hope for each one of my student is to become successful well-rounded citizens who can bring changes to the world around them and it starts with awareness and knowledge about different cultures.
