Working with an ELA coach from District 75 and other teachers from different sites within our school, we decided that we can do MORE to teach our students how to read. In our conversations, we realized that if we never expose our students to these skills - how will they ever learn them?
These materials will help me create a comfortable and fun area in my classroom where students eat breakfast and excited to read!
One of my goals is to create a Shared Reading program in which our students can be part of an interactive reading experience. The teacher can model the skills of a proficient reader. Shared Reading is designed to be an enjoyable way for our students to interact with text that they couldn't do on their own.
Our leveled libraries will allow students to take the skills that the learn during our reading lessons and apply them to a book on their level of reading.
...and all of this will happen on our beautiful new class carpet - a space where we can come together as a class and get our kids out of their chairs!
