Our classroom consists of 120 engineers, inventors, and problem solvers, from grade 6. I have the privilege of working with incredibly talented and courageous scholars, facing a variety of academic and behavioral difficulties. The emphasis on inquiry, creativity, and problem solving in science has evened the playing field for students, allowing all students to access curriculum, and to make sense of his/her own learning. Through exploration and project based learning, many of my students have learned the value in making mistakes; scientists are expected to fail, expected to change hypothesis', expected to reevaluate experiments and designs. My students, regardless of academic ability, have found safe space to make mistakes, a place to confidently discuss his/her ideas.
