My students often come to school with the baggage of something that is happening in their lives, either currently or something that has happened in the past. At unpredictable times, these happenings sneak up on them during the school day and they become dysregulated and learning stops.
Self-Regulation is the key to success!
During these times, it is helpful to have an activity for them to help clear and reset their brains so that they can get back to learning as quickly as possible. Several students named detailed coloring as a useful coping skill to help them get their focus back. The coloring books and markers would give them access to this. The lanyard kit was a suggestion from one student who said that making arts and crafts to share with others. The vinyl will be used visual cues within the classroom and hallways to serve as reminders to respect others’ personal space.
