My classroom changes depending on the time of day. Sometimes it’s a fold-out stage in the cafeteria. Other times, it’s the counseling office, the cheer practice space, or a student leadership meeting around a whiteboard. I serve as my school’s drama director, cheer coach, and counselor—so I get to work with students in all kinds of ways. My students are creative, resilient, and full of heart. Most come from underserved communities, and for some, the programs I lead are their safe space to grow, perform, and lead. Our drama program doesn’t have a theater—we rehearse and perform on a shared cafetorium stage—but it thrives on student energy and imagination. My tech crew especially shines behind the scenes—running sound, painting sets, and operating lights. No matter the setting, our classroom is where students build confidence, express themselves, and belong.
