I work with a lot of students who have experienced trauma. Students who don't have a supportive community find they often struggle in school.
My goal as a music teacher is to help students become comfortable sharing their stories. The recording equipment will help give students the chance to write and record original works, which has the power to transform their lives. Students who struggle to say how they're feeling, often find the strength to process using artistic means.
Throughout the year, I ask students to connect what they are learning in class to their personal stories. With the recording equipment, students will learn valuable skills as they record, mix, edit, and publish their works. Most importantly, students will have a safe space in which to be heard. Regardless of who they are or their level of experience, they have a powerful voice which should be shared.
