Our class consists of 30 fifth graders within an urban school in Los Angeles. Our virtual classroom is designed to be a comfortable, welcoming environment that encourages learners to participate and share their ideas and understandings. Throughout the school day students have opportunities to participate in many different types of learning, from individualized experiences to whole class activities. Students are encouraged to reflect on their own progress and learning and set individual goals for themselves across content areas. They are given support and tools to meet these goals. This promotes a community of independence and accountability.
