With these new materials, I plan to create a classroom that is comfortable, cozy and calm; an all around enjoyable place to learn and be. The students at our school, and within the entire area, are considered very high risk due to low economic status and some unconventional home situations. I plan to create an area in the corner of the room, with the umbrella and beanbags, that is a calming and safe thinking spot for students to go to when they become upset, angry, or experience other big emotions they need to work out. I also think the students would feel more welcome and comfortable with a large area rug placed at the front of the room for whole class lessons, small group meetings, or independent reading. The yoga ball chairs and stools will be used for flexible seating. It would be so nice to walk into a room where you felt welcome safe and loved. Leave all your worries at the door, choose your seat for the day, get comfortable and ready to learn!
